2019 Annual Campaign

Hillcrest Children’s Center began offering early care and education services in September 1967 in response to families’ needs. As a non-profit managed by the families served for over 50 years, Hillcrest becomes an extended family to our children, families, and teachers. We continue to have long-term committed teachers who cherish being part of your children’s lives. This year we celebrate Mr. Jim, Ms. Renae. Ms. Carmen, Ms. Christina, and Ms. Mua being with Hillcrest for over ten years; while Ms. Mildred, Ms. Ana, Mr. Tyler, and Ms. Sia all have at least five years each. Supported by the additional 12 employees, this longevity by caring caregivers provides a strong foundation for your children’s early care experience.

Hillcrest is finishing year two of a five-year strategic plan. One of our biggest priorities is to complete all building upgrades by 2022. We have completed over half of the updates needed due to generous support from current and former families, grandparents, Alaska Community Foundation, Cook Inlet Tribal Council, and The Rasmuson Foundation.

Updates completed this year include:

  • New boiler installed and new heating registers in toddler and preschool classrooms (opening 200 square feet of play-space!)
  • Kitchen upgraded to meet commercial needs
  • New flooring installed throughout the building

It is our hope that every family, friend, and alumni will consider a gift to the Annual Fund between the Fall Festival and the end of the year.  This can be a one-time donation or we would also like to invite families, friends, and alumni to consider becoming a Sustaining Family donor through a monthly donation to Hillcrest!

Proceeds of this year’s Annual Fund Campaign will be used to install the bathroom in the preschool. The teachers are excited about the ease that the upgrades will bring to their day. The children will benefit from having a bathroom in the classroom, and easy access to sinks to wash hands and materials as needed. All staff will enjoy the addition of an extra adult bathroom in the building.

Also, this year’s Annual Fund Campaign will be used to fund the annual staff recognition bonuses. The teachers strive every day to create a loving, engaging place for your children to spend their time away from you. The teachers would like to thank you in advance for supporting this year’s Annual Fund Campaign.

We have an ambitious fundraising goal of $25,000 this year to sustain the work that we do. The most important goal is 100 percent participation of the families in this year’s campaign! We ask that all families consider what Hillcrest means to them and give accordingly to their ability. As a special thank you, all families who donate to the Annual Fund Campaign will be entered into a drawing for one of the five free Parent Night Out evenings in 2020. Families who become a Sustaining Family will have the chance to win two round-trip Alaska Railroad tickets to Seward.

You can make your donation through PayPal on our website, check, or email Christina to have it added to your invoice. Your gift is tax-deductible, and Hillcrest will provide you with a receipt. We also welcome introductions to friends, neighbors, and other giving programs who may be interested in supporting Hillcrest.
